- Summary: Totally awesome
- Comment: I bought this item a month ago because we have a lamp that needs to be plugged in to use. We keep the remote on the coffee table to we can turn it on and off during movie watching, etc. The other adapters are going to be used for Christmas lights and other outlets later. It works through more than one wall and is nice to be able to select one of three lights to turn on and off.

- Summary: You'll only get 2 out of 3 of them to work...at best
- Comment: Bought this 3-pack, only really needing 2 - which is a good thing because that's all that worked. The 3 receivers seem to work but not all of the buttons on the remote work so I can only control 2 of the 3 units. In all honesty, I would have paid that much for 2 functioning units but I like to get what I actually pay for - I'm funny that way. I unscrewed the back of the remote to see if perhaps something was loose. The circuit board looked like it had been put through the ringer so I'm hoping it's not a matter of time before the entire remote becomes useless. I do love the technology, just not this execution. Read some of the other reviews - you'll see I'm not the only one who can't get all 3 to work. And from what I understand, the company who makes these has ZERO customer service. Awesome! Caveat emptor.

- Summary: Only 2 out of 3 work.
- Comment: This seems like an on going problem from the reviews. Not all of them work. How sad is that? You buy a 3 pack and not all of them will work. How pathetic actually.

- Summary: THE HEIGHT OF CONVENIENCE
- Comment: This is a great convenience tool! We own several speciality lamps that have a small on/off box attached to the electrical cord and the cord hangs off of a table. We found that we were not using the lamps because it was difficult to fish out the electrical cord in order to turn the lamp on/off, so we stopped using the lamps. We purchased the wireless remote kit and found that we are using the lamps everyday now. In addition we use power strips in the office and kitchen and power everything down at the touch of a button...what a great tool!

- Summary: Radio beats X11
- Comment: For remote control power there are 3 levels of control, and 3 levels of price. This has the lowest price but mid-level reliability making it a value leader.
On the high end is TPB or "The Power Bus". It is like X11, requires that you install phase hopping boxes in your electrical panel, but has one VERY important feature - it is two way. A controller commands a device to turn on/off or dim through 10 levels of dimming, and the device responds back to the controller that the action has been done - success. That last part is missing in X11, so commands often do not get received by the distant devices. With no feedback to the controller you don't know for sure if the corner lights on your property received the message and have to check. With TPB they check for you. The cost for this feature can be extreme. A 3 switch controller equivalent to what I have bought here in TPB would be over $600 for a starter "system" and require substantial installation. TPB is great for large homes, such as the Gates Estate, but not really practical for the 2500-5000 sq ft home.
In the middle are the radio devices, such as this. They operate in the garage door opener band, which is shared with the us military on a non-interference basis. Frequencies used are often 300, 303, or 315 Mhz which penetrate walls very well indoors. Although TPB, above, is the only system with full feedback, you can send an "ON" command multiple times and be reasonably certain that one of the transmissions got through (about like using your car alarm keyfob controller at a distance - press it enough times and one gets through). This system works out to about $7/device, which you can not beat, and although it lacks expandability or computer control, it is one of the lowest priced power controllers per outlet. It has the further plus that cars with garage door learning capability can "learn" this into a button to turn on lights when you arrive home.
On the low end is the now obsolete X11 system. It lacks reliability due to the noise in the 4-40 khz spectrum on the power lines, it requires phase jumpers for signal to get to the phase your controller is not plugged into, and is subject to interferance from multiple sources. Pricewise, X11 is not the cheapest system either, with this 3 outlet controlled setup costing about $120, however it offers alarm and computer tie-in. Had X11 been designed with bi-directional talking such as TPB has, we would have a cost efficient system, however today it has been surpassed by controlled systems goth at higher cost and lower cost. I have an X11 controller in my alarm system, and can make it flash lights etc when the alarm is activated, but the problem is that the alarm is plugged into a UPS outlet, which filters these frequencies from getting to the house wiring, so it would not work.
With the radio controller squarely in the middle on reliability and the lowest cost option, for now it will do the job. Someday when money is no object I will look into the power bus but I worked out what it would take to automate my outdoor lights, and although it calculated turn-on / turn-off times for our location automatically for dusk to dawn lighting, it was over $1000 just for 4 lights. This system will handle my immediate need of remote control of 2 lammps and an air conditioner.
